Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens), spent summers at this estate in the 1870's and 1880's. He was married to Olivia Langdon by the Rev. Thomas Beecher, his close friend in Elmira and pastor of Park Church. The home was owned by Olivia's sister and rested on a 255-acre estate. Twain is buried in Elmira's Woodlawn Cemetery with his wife and children.
