LANDMARKS
of New York State
In 1904, using funds from his patent medicine business, Willis S. Kilmer had the tallest building in Binghamton constructed. Kilmer, reportedly unhappy with press coverage by the local newspaper, established the building to produce a competing newspaper, the Binghamton Press. Later known as the Evening Press, the newspaper would be published from this building until 1964. The large street-level windows provided onlookers a view of the presses as the newspaper was printed. The Press Building remained Binghamton's tallest structure until 1972.
