Sherman Phelps Mansion

Designed by Isaac Perry for Sherman Phelps, mayor of the newly incorporated City of Binghamton, the Sherman Phelps Mansion is one of the finest examples of post-Civil War Second Empire architecture. Built in 1870 it has been occupied since 1905 by the Monday Afternoon Club, and stands as one of Binghamton's most prominent and well preserved landmarks.

John Stewart Wells purchased the home from Phelps. In 1905 the Monday Afternoon Club, a women's civic organization formed in 1890, purchased it from Wells. Ownership was transferred to the Phelps Mansion Foundation in 1986.
