The BLAST with PAST

Back in 1914 a brand new photoplay-house opened at 168 Water Street. It was called the People’s Theater, and night after night for the next 16 years, Binghamtonians paid 5 cents each to crowd into "the House Cosey" to watch the latest silent movies. The theater finally closed when talkies came out and the building went on to serve as an indoor miniature golf course, a bar and dance palace among other things. Renovated in 2012, it has since that time been home to Water Street Brewing Company, one of this region’s finest craft breweries.
On Thursday, November 9, the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier will be there to watch old movies, to tip a pint or two in memory of the People’s Theater, and to honor Historic Preservation throughout the Southern Tier...and this being the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage in New York State, we have a special cause to celebrate!
One Hundred Years Ago… On January 5, 1918, the very first woman voted in New York State. Her name was Florence Chauncey, and she cast her vote right here in Broome County at the old Lisle Village Hall. The Preservation Association of the Southern Tier has located the original building and on January 5, 2018, exactly 100 years after that first vote was cast, we will unveil an historical marker at the site!
ALL PROCEEDS FROM "THE BLAST WITH PAST" WILL GO TOWARD THE EFFORT TO MEMORIALIZE THIS HISTORIC LANDMARK, THE OLD LISLE VILLAGE HALL!
So join us for an evening of fun and enjoy some of the best craft-brew and food in the Southern Tier! From 4pm throughout the evening, SILENT MOVIES will run continuously, fresh theater POPCORN will be served and RAFFLES will be held. Collectible PAST PINT BEER GLASSES will be available for purchase and anyone joining PAST during the event will get one FREE!
